Manteau de fleurs

Song by Ravel written in 1903, to a text by Paul Gravollet, an actor who asked a number of musicians to set his poems for a collection that was eventually published in 1906 under the title Les Frissons. Among the twenty-two composers who responded were Debussy, d'Indy, and Caplet; Ravel's offering appeared as no.19 in the set, and has generally found little favour among his critics (Jankélévitch [1995] pp.23-24; Marnat [1986] pp.136-137).

The text of the song can be found on the Lied and Song Texts Page.
